Summer History Day Camps

|
| Director Michele with Colonial Campers |
Hello Friends, Due to my needing to care for my handicapped husband more than before, I have decided to offer a few 3-day mini-camps
this year, featuring several historic time periods. Earlier this website said that there would not be any camp sessions
this summer, but some homeschool moms have gotten together a core group of campers, so we will be having a minimum of 2 camp
sessions, which are open to the public. The dates are listed below, and if any of you can get a group of
at least 10 together, I will offer more camp sessions. Thanks for your understanding.

"Teens Thru Time" Photos - Last Year's Teen Camp
***************************************** These unique day camp
sessions are held at Southern Oaks, 240 N. Jeff Davis Drive in downtown Fayetteville, Georgia, which is approximately 20 miles
south of Atlanta.
Campers must be ages 8 to 12, occasionally I will allow a 7 year old. For the
TEEN CAMP, girls can be mature 11 and 12 year olds up through age 17. If they are still "little-girlish"
then the teen camp is not appropriate for them. I can make the determination on a one-by-one basis if a pre-teen
girl is ready for teen camp. Sessions are limited to 20 campers each week, with a minimum
of one adult and one teen-age assistant present at all times.
Hours: 10am to 3pm, Tuesday, Wednesday
and Thursday, on dates listed below.

Summer of 2011 Camp Schedule
June 28, 29 & 30 -
Colonial Days - ages 8 thru teen [As of June 24, there are 8 girls signed up so there's plenty of room for more.] July 20, 21 & 22 - Victorian Life - ages 7 thru teen [Room for only 1 or 2 more girls]
Victorian Life - Girls ages 8-12 learn about the life of a girl in the mid-1800s. Campers dress up in hoop
skirts and make their own bonnets, take tea in the Victorian style, do needlework, learn early American dancing, and
more!
Colonial Days - Girls ages
8-12 dress in 1700s outfits and make aprons, which they embroider themselves. They participate in several activities of the
Colonial days, including holding a "liber-tea," pressing flowers, learning Colonial games and dancing!
Teens Through Time-- Open to teen-agers and pre-teens
as long as they are tall enough to fit into the costumes . Campers will learn about women's lives through three eras--
Regency (early 1800s), Edwardian (late 1800s) & "Roaring Twenties!!" Costume-making, period dancing, hat-making,
sewing, calligraphy, and taking tea!
International Folk Dance Camp
- [Not planning to offer this year, but will if there's enough interest] Campers learn circle, partner, and line
dances from several regions of the world. They will make beautiful headpieces, sample international foods, and put
on a first-class dance program at the end of the camp week. Available to boys and girls ages 8 through teens.
HOW TO REGISTER-- Registration may be done in the following ways: In Person -- Parents may visit Southern Oaks and register campers
any time beginning in Spring of 2011 (Note: There is not always a staff person
on the premises, so it is best to call first.) By Phone/Mail -- Campers can be registered by calling Southern Oaks at 770-460-0890. Once
availability is determined for the desired camp session, the camper's spot in the desired session will be reserved, and
tuition payment may be mailed to Southern Oaks.
Please do not send money directly to Southern Oaks without first determining that there is an opening in your
desired camp session! By
E-Mail -- Michele Cox can be contacted by e-mail to register for camp at the following e-mail address: Victorianlady@mindspring.com. Once availability for the desired camp days is determined, the
camper's spot in that session will be reserved, registration forms can be downloaded below, and tuition payment may be
mailed as stated above. I can accept *credit cards over the phone, but not online at this time.
Ongoing Registration -- Persons wishing to
register a camper for a later session during the summer may come in person to Southern Oaks during the hours that the camp

is over before the Director can sign up a new camper.
